The date is November 4th, 1979. Only hours earlier, the US embassy in Tehran was violently stormed by university students, likely members of an organization known as the Muslim Student Followers. This outburst of violence is the result of decades of distrust and hatred of Americans. The result is an unprecedented hostage crisis. A total of 90 hostages have been taken, 66 of which are American citizens. Additionally, another six hostages have escaped the embassy to face the perils of the streets of Tehran. In response, President Carter has called an emergency meeting to decide on a means of action. As US diplomats, it is the responsibility of you as delegates in this committee to ensure the safety and release of these hostages. Whether it be through diplomacy, economic sanctions, aggression, or outright warfare, the lives of these 72 Americans rest in your hands.
