The year is 1986, and the Soviet Union is in disarray. Reactor 4 of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant has exploded, and radiation is beginning to spread across the surrounding area. Dozens of lives have already been lost, and potentially all of Eastern Europe is at risk of being contaminated. All eyes are on the Soviet authority as they attempt to contain what is quickly becoming the worst nuclear disaster in history. Not only are the lives of millions at stake, but the reputation of the USSR and its strict communist ideology, as well. Delegates in this committee will face the challenge of containing the nuclear fallout caused by this disaster, as well as navigating the social and political challenges that were a result of this accident. They will fight to save the reputation of the Soviet Union and of nuclear energy as a reliable power source for the future.
