On April 14, 2014, life for 276 Nigerian school girls was changed forever. The girls were taken from their dormitories in the Nigerian city of Chibok by the Sunni extremist group, Boko Haram. These primarily Christian girls were faced with a decision: convert to Islam and get married to Boko Haram fighters, or work as slaves under their will and scrutiny. Acts of extreme violence committed by Boko Haram have only increased over time. The nation of Nigeria is struggling with daily fear, turmoil, and political unrest as the group vies for power through suicide bombings and kidnappings to obtain their goal of enforcing their interpretation of Sharia law. A year later in May 2015, 219 girls are still missing and the influence of the group continues to rise. Delegates will represent the members of the United Nations Security Council to find a way to address this conflict and restore peace to Nigeria’s population.
