On May 14, 1948, soon after the partition of Palestine into Arab and Jewish states, the State of Israel declared its independence. This was a turning point in the history of the region, marking the beginning of the first Arab-Israeli War. Conflict erupted between Israel and several Arab nations, including Lebanon, Syria, Egypt, Jordan, and Iraq. Both sides believed that Palestine had been promised to them, and aimed to occupy as much of the region as possible. The conflict resulted in significant casualties in battle, as well as thousands of displaced Palestinians. Your roles as delegates will be to establish a compromise between the Arab and Israeli states while considering the viewpoints of each nation involved. In addition, delegates will be tasked with responding to the humanitarian crisis brought about by the war.
