It is currently January 1st, 1932. America is still toiling through the Great Depression, with continual bank panics only seeming to increase the damage to the American economy.
Prohibition has been in place for almost twelve years, and in that time little has been done to appropriately enforce the law. The Volstead Act is entirely failing at its intended purpose as the rich continue to suffer no consequences for violating it. While the poor find ways to get alcohol, primarily through the mob, they’re far from the freedom held by the rich.
Just a few months ago, notorious gangster Al Capone was convicted, showing that progress can be made in the battle against organized crime. However, his family still remains largely intact, and word has leaked that the mob has created a new commission that will unify different Italian crime families across the country.
The Great Depression has been an absolute disaster for the administration, with millions unemployed and many starving in the streets, and with no help from the government, these individuals have few other options than a life of organized crime to fill their plate.
With pressures mounting, people getting hungrier every day, and the mob only further undermining their power, how can the government under Herbert Hoover salvage Prohibition from the clutches of the mob? How can an unhelpful government fight a mob with the support of the people? And how can they be sure there aren’t mobsters among them?
